A vintage Reeves watercolour paint box/ black japanned metal with 27 half pans. The label inside the brush tray says Reeves’ Student Colour Box No. Inside there is a removable metal tray for 10 tubes of paint. 5 removable enamelled tin single mixing dishes and a metal water container. There is a space underneath, reachable by pulling down the front with the handle. Where a sketch book/ board or paper could be stored. By folding the hinged front flap down and turning the open box round. So that the lid is furthest from you, your paper or sketchpad can be placed on the lid whislt you paint. The hinges and slide catch work well. All but one of the pans are ceramic and’Reeves; one is a replacement (plastic) Winsor & Newton. At some time the grid holding the ½ pans has been re-soldered to the sides of the tin. Closed, the box measures approximately 24cm x 18cm x 4cm. It is in good condition with any signs of wear commensurate with age and use. In the top right hand corner of the lid the previous owner has scratched their name. One of the ceramic pans is chipped please see the last photo (number 12). I have not been able to find another No: 87, which makes me wonder if they didnt make very many!
