The listing is for a brand new 50 pencil Pastel Set by Holbein. This is a truly beautiful set of pencils and a perfect way to introduce you to Holbein before you invest in a complete set. The colors are simply yummy. While pastel in color, they have a depth of color, I have not found anywhere else. They glide onto the paper, blending is a breeze and I have never had an issue with a lead breaking while in use. What I missed in the Holbein Pastel set was a white pencil for blending and a brown pencil for obtaining a darker skin tone. As I primarily do portraits the lack of a darker shade of brown was downright aggravating. Whether you use them like me for portraits and blending or for something else, it is always great to get a couple pencils extra! With the white pencil I found that if I colored the highlights on the face and eye and areas of the background where for example there were stars or lighter clouds first, when I then went over with a lighter layer of another color or colors, it kept those areas lighter and brighter. What a time saver that has been. I also have one openstock new Navy Blue pencil remaining, so if you would like that added as well let me know and I will alter one listing to include that pencil as well. Note: These are pastel in color and are not Pastel Pencils which are different in what they are made of and how they are applied and which include all colors, not just pastel toned ones. If you are familiar with Pastel Pencils which come in many colors including dark toned colors and have a chalky, somewhat messy application, that is NOT what is offered here. These are wax based pencils identical except for color to all other Holbein pencils. The Pastel refers to the color of the pencil only with these Holbein pencils.
