Here is a very nice and rare artist box by a usual maker. It has nice rings under the tin to help you hold it. The paints have been used and the containers are marked with the maker name. Vintage Lechertier Barbe & Co Walnut Pochade Box Art Painting Artist. This is truly a beautiful artists pochade box of the 19th C. Just look at that Walnut on the top! It is made by the highly influential Lechertier Barbe & co. It is likely that one of the front hinges and one key are early replacements but apart from that the box is untouched and complete. The studs for a strap so the box may be worn over the shoulder are featured in one photo. From the perspective of being a pochade these boxes are quite novel. The user undoes the nuts on the front which in turn allows the two brass arms at the top of the lid to hold the canvas. Whilst two ramps move up or down the two bars which hold the open lid in position. This is a very positive system and it works! The box is as you can see in great condition and solid. It is a beautiful thing in its own right. Approx 37.5 x 27.5 x 6 cm. Thanks for looking, any questions feel free to ask. Antique Lechertier Barbe Artists Travelling Easel Paint Box This easel is in fantastic clean solid complete condition, no damage to wood and all the nicely engineered mechanisms in full working order. I do not know age of the easel but I know it is before 1950 as the company ceased trading then I would hazard a guess that due to the bottles and other items which the box contained that it may be quite a bit older than this although I can not state the age categorically The height when erected is adjustable by the legs – when boxed away it is 54 by 38 cm.
