This is by far the rarest and smallest Roberson box Ive seen. Although it is small and very pretty it is still a working watercolour paint box but a very different one! The exterior is I think either Silver or Nickel plated so it is very shiny. It also still has its original Chatelaine chain. All of its original paints are present and quite usable. Internally apart from the internal cover and bears the Roberson name which is Silver or Nickel plated the box is white and is its original paint. There is one area of the paint cover that is marked maybe caused by one of the paints. This mark or corrosion could easily be restored. This is really the only negative thing I can find to say about this charming and exquisitely rare little box. I suspect it was made during the 1920s and I can easily see in my mind a charming lady of the period using this. The chain is perfectly long enough for someone to still wear this lovely working watercolour box. It is a beautiful box. Approx, 3.5 x2.5 x 1 cm. The Little Brass Box Company – Watercolor Palette : Roberson Style Paintbox – Color Red. According to The Little Brass Box Company website they currently have a ONE YEAR waiting list for boxes! These are very fine boxes and are in very high demand. The palette has never been used. The only time this palette has been out of the packaging was when it arrived and to take these photos. A RARE ANTIQUE ORIGINAL C. ROBERSON & CO FOLDING ENAMELED METAL WATERCOLOUR PAINTBOX WITH THUMB HOLE AND PORCELAIN PANS. Established by Charles Roberson in 1810 C Roberson & Co were located at 99 Long Acre, London from 1857 to 1937 making and supplying materials to many of the great artists and designers of the day. This is the larger of their style paintbox that has become a classic design. MARKS – Embossed label attached. SIZE – closed 20.8 x 10.2 x 2.2cm (8 1/4 x 4 x 7/8in). CONDITION – The outer lid has a number of dents with associated enamel losses inside, part of the seam joints around two of the oval reservoirs also look to have had old repairs to make them watertight after some damage, this looks to have been well done and is not obvious. Lovely Antique wooden Art box by C Roberson – Made in England. There are lots of tubes of paint Roberson, Winsor & Newton etc.. I have no idea what is usable or not but thought it best to keep as is. There are removable metal trays and some paint/ink wells. It has a wonderful wooden palette which fits neatly inside. The lid has an opening at the top which holds two wooden sheets – these are propped up by metal supports to create a sort of easel. The leather handle is included but has become detached. This is the brass Roberson Style Paintbox handmade in the UK by The Little Brass Box Company. I’ve filled it with Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors from the tube, but other than that it has not been used see photos. I hate to part with it but it is a luxury item that I really don’t need as a hobbyist. If you’re looking, you know how special this paintbox is! It’s made entirely by hand and must be custom ordered. Here’s your chance to pick this up without the wait. It’s simply gorgeous! And the orange is a truly luscious color. The wells inside are white and untouched. The palette itself, which holds 16 colors, is removable. Photos are of the actual item. The tube colors in the palette are as follows, but you can certainly clean these out and add your own.
