Raj Hans Reeves Copycat Watercolor Boxes Vintage Royal Dog and Deluxe Dog Paint Tins. 2 Rare Watercolor Boxes from India. India produced many watercolour boxes during the boom in watercolour arts in England. Many were made to compete with popular brands of the time. These two boxes in particular are reminiscent of the Reeves Spotted Greyhound. You can see the subtle variations in each one and it’s really very amusing to see the titles they give these relating to the famous logo without using the name itself. These two both came from a collector in India. One of these tins is empty except for half of a white cake. The other is full of clear, vibrant, imprinted cakes of the hounds. It has seen little use and is in amazing condition for its age; especially considering the humid climate from which it came. In recent years it has only been kept for display as a part of a vintage and antique watercolor collection. I’ve noticed the colors are brighter in these pigmented cakes than many of their European counterparts. A pleasure to look at and the instructions are still printed clearly on the tin’s interior with nearly all lettering remaining.
